Engineering is one of the fastest-growing job areas, and for good reason. As the consumer electronics industry expands, engineers are increasingly in demand. If you major in renewable energy technology, for example, there are a variety of concentrations that may appeal to you such as electrical power engineering, solar cell design, or alternative energy. Check with the department of renewable energy for an updated schedule of classes, registration deadlines, and a list of renewable energy technology requirements. Further, due to advances in engineering techniques, there is a growing shortage of specialists in wind turbine production, and of skilled industrial engineers in general. The Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) leads public research in innovative solar power technologies. Photovoltaic arrays, or PV for short, harness the sun's power and turn it into electricity. Photovoltaic arrays must be mounted on a stable, durable structure that tilts the PV array at a fixed angle determined by the local latitude. Inverters are used to convert the direct current (DC) electricity generated by solar photovoltaic modules into alternating current (AC). Finally, large batteries allow a recycling program of solar photovoltaic energy when bad weather blocks sunlight from reaching the photovoltaic panels.

An alternative solar power configuration is composed of carbon-rich polymers and can be tailored to enhance a specific function of the solar cell. This technology has the theoretical potential to provide renewable energy at a lower cost than silicon or thin-film recycling programs. Concentration PV, also known as CPV, focuses sunlight onto a solar cell by using a mirror or lens. By focusing sunlight onto a small area, less PV material is required. This technology uses mirrors to reflect and concentrate sunlight onto receivers that collect solar energy and convert it to heat, which can then be used to produce electricity.

Wind Power Engineering

The US Department of Energy's Wind Program works with industry partners to increase the performance and reliability of next-generation wind technologies, while lowering the cost of wind energy. Research efforts have helped to increase the average capacity factor (a measure of wind power plant productivity) from 20% for wind turbines installed before the year 1999 to an average of almost 35% today. At the same time, wind energy costs have been reduced from over 55 cents (in current US dollars) per kilowatt-hour (kWh) in 1985, down to an average of 2.4 cents in the US today.

To ensure future industry growth, the wind power must continue to evolve, building on earlier turbine technology successes to further improve reliability, increase capacity factors, and reduce costs. The newest inventions coming out of the DOE Wind Program can also be found on the Energy Innovation Portal, from the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Further, improved turbine performance has led to a more robust domestic wind industry.

Technical programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year university, and you can earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. If you remain true to your career interests, via Suffolk County Community College night classes, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. If you're currently employed, you can take online technical education classes in your free time to advance your career. Financial Aid Information

Government scholarships and Pell grant applications, combined with academic scholarships, only account for a third of total college aid. Student loans, work-study earnings, and personal savings make up the remaining two-thirds. The official FAFSA website is fafsa.ed.gov and is free to use. Merit-based aid is a package of scholarships and grants awarded to students with special talents. The IRS suggests that parents maintain accurate financial statements, including tax forms and business records, for use when applying for student financial aid.

Student loans often carry an origination fee. Origination fees are a one-time charge based on the amount of the loan. Financial aid may be administered through the Department of Education or your school's financial aid office. High school grades are the most important factor in gaining admission to the college of your choice, along with letters of recommendation. According to College of San Mateo cognitive psychology, an ideal academic record consists of a high GPA in courses of progressive difficulty. Peterson's Scholarship Search Award Database is drawn from Peterson's college guidebooks. Trade unions may offer scholarships for union members and their dependent children.

Engineering Jobs

As the economy improves, many engineering firms are beginning to hire additional personnel. Whether you are a new college grad, or have engineering experience, this is an excellent time to seek a new career. The Fundamentals of Engineering exam should be taken immediately after earning a bachelors degree from an ABET-accredited program. Engineer interns can attempt a second certifying exam, called the Principles and Practice of Engineering Exam. Thereafter, acquisition of a professional engineering license enables management of junior engineers, the ability to sign off on engineering projects, and provide services directly to the public. Finding out about Metro State College Spanish department ranking, on the other hand, may broaden your resume in order to appeal to a wider variety of employers.

Hiring managers typically post new jobs on targeted job sites, which we have sampled. Wilkes Community College job openings information may be available through the human resources department. Aside from a good salary, many technical education programs include excellent benefits, as well as retirement plans. The Department of Commerce offers starting salary data though the Occupational Outlook Handbook.
